Connecting Students and Professionals to the Accounting Profession

The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA) participated in the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Open Day on Friday 21, August 2026 at the SINU Open Field, Kukum Campus.

ISIA's participation was centered on promoting the Institute through an information, engagement and professional outreach booth, with a focus on creating awareness of accounting and finance career opportunities, supporting student career awareness, and identifying potential membership, training and professional registration opportunities.

The engagement brought ISIA directly to two key audience groups: secondary school students considering their future study and career options, and the university community, including SINU accounting students, graduates, final-year accounting students, and current SINU finance and accounts staff.

Promoting the Professional Pathway

A key objective of ISIA's participation was to communicate the opportunities available at different stages of an individual's accounting journey.

Through the outreach activities, the Institute promoted student and professional membership opportunities, highlighted its training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs and explained the professional pathway from student membership through to professional development and registration as a practitioner.

The engagement was guided by three key messages:

  • For students: Start your professional journey with ISIA.
  • For current professionals: Take the next step in your professional journey with ISIA
  • For everyone: Membership and registration are different, but both are important parts of the professional pathway.

These messages were intended to help students understand that their professional journey can begin while they are still studying, while also encouraging existing accounting and finance professionals to consider their next steps in professional development and engagement with the Institute.

Making Learning Interactive

To encourage participation and make the engagement informative and enjoyable, ISIA incorporated interactive activities at its booth.

A total of eight quizzes out of ten were conducted, with prizes awarded to participants who provided correct answers. The quizzes offered an engaging way to introduce accounting-related knowledge, encourage participation and create conversations around the accounting profession.

The approach complemented ISIA's broader objective of making the profession more accessible and encouraging students to learn about the opportunities available within accounting and finance.

Investing in the Next Generation of Accounting Professionals

ISIA's participation at the SINU Open Day reflects the Institute's ongoing commitment to promoting the accounting profession, strengthening relationships with educational institutions and encouraging the development of future accounting professionals.

By engaging with students at different stages of their education, as well as final year students and existing professionals, ISIA continues to build awareness of the importance of professional membership, ongoing learning and recognized professional registration.

The Institute encourages students, graduates and accounting and finance professionals to connect with ISIA and the opportunities available to support their professional journeys.
