About the Event

The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants is inviting all its financial members to attend a two hours workshop on Thursday 12th of March 2020. The venue will be at the IBS Dynasty Restaurant starting 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This is the final discussion within the Institute before we bring these to the AGM and subsequently to the relevant authorities for endorsement.

Our keynote speaker for the night will be Mr Robert Cohen who is currently the Accounting Standards and Compliance Advisor to the Institute, and former Auditor General (Acting) to Solomon Islands.

Topic: “Proposed New Arrangements Governing the Accountancy Profession in Solomon Islands”

Mr Cohen will be describing the proposed new arrangements governing the accountancy profession in Solomon Islands. The key elements of the presentation will include the proposed Constitution of ISIA along with the associated bylaws governing the operations of the Institute which includes the establishment of a number of new committees open to representation from the general membership. His presentation will also outline the various international standards with which members will be expected to comply; and the recommended transition period for adopting those standards. He will also describe the operations of the Registered Practicing Accountants Disciplinary Board which will operate independently of ISIA.

Part of the presentation will describe the proposed new membership categories and their eligibility requirements so that technician accountants can become a vital part of our membership – and the education initiatives being taken to provide the necessary support to members from both the private sector and public sector to meet these new opportunities and obligations.

Bookings can be done on phone 20131 and by visiting ISIA Secretariat, located in the NPF Plaza, Room 41.

Please note that this is a free workshop for members to take part in the discussions that will enable ISIA to progress these fundamental changes that are necessary for the development and long-term sustainability of the organisation.
